My Mission

About This Project
In 7th grade, I remember being captivated by Joy Buolamwini, a guest speaker and expert on the topic of AI discrimination. It never occurred to me that pieces of technology, AI, could possibly have a human characteristic such as bias. Therefore, for CASE I decided to dive deeper into the issue.

In particular, I decided to focus on how AI discrimination affects the job market because of the recent pandemic. In April 2020, the unemployment rate rose to 14.8%, the highest it has been since it started to become recorded. I realized that now more than ever, as we ease back into our normal lives, minorities –who have been hit the hardest- are in the most precarious situation. On top of being hit the hardest, AI discrimination is on the rise and needs to be brought into light.

My goal for CASE 2021 was to educate and raise awareness upon the issue of AI discrimination.
in the future...
In the future, I hope to hold an information session with guest speakers who will share their perspectives on the issue of AI discrimination, some focused on the job market and some experts speaking on the overall issue.
